458 Oakwood Avenue

In November 2008, prior to my taking office, North York Community Council gave final approval for six units in a three story Walk-up to be built at 458 Oakwood Avenue.
Last fall, when the building was under construction, City Planning Staff found that what was being built on site was in fact a building with eight units. While I support the interest in creating live/ work studios along Oakwood Avenue, and the developer maintained the orignial height and size of the building, applicants must adhere to the plans for which they are approved and relay any changes to the community.
Given the applicant was now building a configuration for which they had not been approved, I demanded this application go back through the approval process and to the community for consultation. A public meeting was subsequently held on April 9, 2013 with City Staff, the applicant, residents and my office, to get the community's input on this new application.
On June 18, North York Community Council approved the applicant's revised plan and the project was made legal. In addition, the develper made a voluntary financail contribution to be dedicated to community improvement.
